Yoga for Arthritis: Learning to Move and Live with Ease Presenter – Maribel Alesna ERYT
Movement is important everyone, especially for people living with arthritis.
However, for people with chronic pain, not all movement may feel safe. Yoga for
Arthritis was developed at Johns Hopkins Arthritis Center by a team of
rheumatologists, psychologist, public health researches and yoga professionals.
Combining Yoga practices with medical knowledge this programs offers ways to
address the unique abilities and limitations of people living with rheumatoid or
This 4-week class series meets on Thursdays for 4 weeks. First meeting is 90
minutes long and will include a brief introduction about the program and the
current pain paradigm. The next 3 meetings are 1 hour long. Participants will be
asked to complete an intake form during registration and can expect movement,
breathing techniques and a short meditation for each class.
Participation is limited to a maximum of 8, minimum of 5.

Maribel Alesna is a long time wellness enthusiast and spiritual seeker, is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, Yoga for Arthritis teacher and certified Yoga of the Heart teacher, trained to teach people living with cardiac conditions or cancer. She specializes in using therapeutic yoga practices to alleviate stress in the work place. Viewing pain and injury through the lens of yoga’s biopsychosocial-spirtual model, has transformed Maribe’ls life; she offers the insight of her own experience in classes and private sessions.
