Yoga for Arthritis
Yoga for Arthritis: Learning to Move with Live with Ease. Presenter: Maribel Alesna.
The term “arthritis” is an umbrella term for more than a hundred forms of the disease characterized by joint pain, swelling, stiffness, damage to the joint and surrounding structures.
Yoga for Arthritis (YFA) was developed at John Hopkins Arthritis Center by a team of rheumatologists, psychologists, public health researchers and yoga professionals. Combining yoga practices (postures, gentle movement, breathing practices, relaxation, chanting, meditation and education) with medical knowledge this program offers ways to address the unique abilities and limitations of people living with rheumatoid and/or osteoarthritis.
This 4-week course meets once a week for 90 minutes. Participants will be asked to complete an intake form during registration. The classes will be experimental and educational Because this program is intended to build lifetime skills, self-efficacy and self-healing, home practice is an essential component to this program.
