Live Stream: Chair Yoga for Bone Health 4 Workshop Series
“Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and structural
deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and an increased
susceptibility to fractures, especially of the hip, spine, and wrist. Forty-four million
Americans are known to have low bone mass. That amounts to 55 percent of
everyone over age 50” (Fishman and Saltonstall, 2010).
Studies have shown that yoga can stimulate the formation of bone and help
increase bone mass. And, unlike prescription drugs, the most common side-
effects of yoga are positive – better posture, improved balance, increased
muscular strength, enhanced range of motion and coordination, and reduced anxiety.
Join Sharon in this workshop session, as she helps you examine the significance of bone loss, and possible options to help that trend. During this session, you will have the opportunity to explore some of the best yoga poses for improving bone strength, and learn how to practice these poses safely and effectively, using a chair for support.
